Description

A preface notes the scope of the work. The following 24 (ID'd as H__) heresies are amplified upon over 6 chapters, broken down into major denominations. An appendix lists the 24 heresies in order. H1: Established Church: A number of denominations in various places submit their communities to this heresy. It was always the opinion of the Roman Church that it had sole right to control the reputed church body in any and every nation it held religious sway over. Except for the Vatican, this has virtually ceased to exist in Catholic countries, although its influence continues to linger. This opinion often spilled over to the claim that secular authority was ultimately derived from the Roman Church, although this was very much disputed by secular rulers, and the battle swayed back and forth. We now have a church not permitting its clergy to hold political office for the time being. From the viewpoint of history, this is a farce as figures such as Cardinal Richelieu and the Papal States testify to. In fact, the Vatican state bares this lie. H2: Patriarchal Authority: The Pope is derived from Papa, father. Its priests are called Father by its rules and customs in contravention to the teaching of Jesus Christ. H3: Reformation Church: This heresy purports that disciples of whatever standing are capable of reforming the church, the assumption that the church needs reforming and that said communicants have any authority to do so. H4: Exclusive Priestly Hierarchy: That certain members of the church have extraordinary powers or are alone priestly based upon some donation or inheritance from apostolic inheritance. H5: Exclusive Eucharist: The Lord's Supper requires special sacramental service. H6: Exclusive Repentance: That scripture demands private confession to an exclusive priesthood. H7: Exclusive Interpretation of Scripture: That some Papist priest is fit to negate the Holy Spirit. H8: Denial of Genealogy of Christ: That Joseph was not the biological father of Jesus Christ. H9: Perpetual Virginity of Mary: The unsupported notion of Mary's perpetual virginity. H10: Consecrated Ground: The acceptance of tombs in or about a house of God and their consecration. H11: Apostolic Authority: Inherited authority of bishops from apostles. H12: Godfather Heresy: Baptismal use of term Godfather.
H13: Justification by Faith: Justification by faith without works. H14: Predestination as Fate: That God damned certain men without recourse to forgiveness. H15: Inefficacy of Inherited Grace: That children are not sanctified by salvation of their parents, and members of that church, and lawfully baptized in infancy. H16: Invariant Word: That each word of scripture is invariant from God, no input by prophets and apostles allowed. H17: Invariant Text Source: That any variations in sources suppose fraud or well intentioned doctoring. H18: Arian Heresy: That God cannot exist in several persons by logic. H19: Immortality Heresy: That men are mortal by nature in soul as well as flesh. H20: Intercession Heresy: That men and saints cannot intercede to aid men in prayer. H21: Denial Heresy: That the Bible does not say what it clearly says. H22: Divine Right: That have a right to rule from God not subject to their subjects. H23: Revelation Exclusion: Unsubstantiated limitation of revelation to canon. H24: Conservative Heresy: That Christianity is coincident with conservatism.
